We were totally non-plussed. Their service was great, especially considering the busy crowd on a Friday night, and they were as fast as they could have been considering the crowd. But really, after the 25 minute wait, we were not at all impressed with the food. We both got a shredded beef burrito--pretty standard Mexican restaurant fare--but it was totally flavorless. Without the guacamole and/or pico, there was no flavor at all. Nothing to distinguish the beef from the shell from the beans. The texture/temperature/quality was great, but as far as actual Mexican quality burritos, these were sub-par and not worth the $20 it cost us. I'm not saying I won't come back, but I'm not planning it any time soon.

I agree with other customer that the man taking orders seems very bothered when taking my order. I won't return simply based on his complete lack of customer service.

I am so HAPPY Mattas opened up a new location in Gilbert! I have tried many Mexican food restaurants in Gilbert, San Tan,and Mesa and none really hit the spot! I now don't have to drive the distance for great Mexican food. I love their hot sauce I always pick up an extra bottle to go! The service was great and the staff is very friendly. I have eaten at this location 3 times and the food came out fast and delicious every time!

I highly recommend Mattas to anybody searching for great Mexican food. I've been here nearly 15 times since they opened at the current location and it gets better each time. I've only had the Veggie Burrito because it is so good and I'm trying to watch my weight. The Veggie Burrito has mouth watering bell peppers and grilled onions as well as cheese, sour cream and refried beans. $10 for a burrito, sides of lettuce and more beans and cheese with rice is a great price. Chips and salsa are also provided which are very delicious. Location is very easy to find as it is next to the Cold Stone. Front Staff does seem a bit bored sometimes but they always get the job done regardless and are very helpful. The chefs however are very upbeat and know what they are doing. I've never waited more than 15 minutes on a meal and that includes take out orders. I like how everyone here works as a team and cares about the food and the customer most of all. This place seems to always be busy and I can see why. One little problem may be the tiny menu which is hard to read if you are coming in to eat for the first time. Beyond that this place is great and deserves a lot of credit.

Not impressed. I think this will be good for a teen age hangout like filabertos. But I would rather drive to some burros. The place looked close from outside. The open light was off and it had a hand written note on door. The cashier was chilling while the place was empty but a table was a full mess. I just wanted and asked for a bean and cheese burro and didn't pay attention to total but ended up with a full meal with beans and rice. No big deal though. The burro was fine but was buried in beans. Couldn't pick it up. The place is small and a little dirt my for a new place. Same owners as the original Mattas in Mesa. Obviously not aware . This place is getting its teeth kicked on yelp . But like any new place in QC it will go good for awhile cause we need options. But this place better get their act together . I might go again out of convenience but certainly not tempting.

The service was alright. The guy that took my order seemed annoyed that I was there, and also that I couldn't read their tiny printed menu. The food was really good, really authentic. I grabbed some silverware and it was still dirty. Service is everything to me, I wouldn't come back just because I hate feeling like I'm an inconvenience to people working.

I missed the old Matta's and love that this is in Queen Creek! We have been here multiple times. My favorite is the Louis they are not on the menu but still from the old restaurant. Also beat fish taco ever. And my girls love the Roberts tacos.

"Customer Service" was almost non existent and I waited 15 minutes for a takeout burrito order. Very disappointed in the fact that you can't order just a burrito, instead you have to order the burrito, beans/rice and chips for 10 dollars. The carne asada burrito was completely flavorless. The service, decor, wait, and food need major improvement before I go back or dare recommend it to anyone else.

This is not like the Mattas I grew up with. Sandy Special was OK, cheese crisp was small and there wasn't chilaquiles on their menu at this location. Agree with other reviews, service was pretty crappy. Menu is limited and no happy hour specials. You order food at the counter and they bring it to you when it's done. You get your own drinks and refills. Couldn't tell if the kid with baggy Justin Beeber Pants walking around cleaning the tables and bringing out the food worked there or was just hanging out. Won't be back to this location.

I grew up going to Matta's on Main St. Followed them when they opened on Higley/Brown and once again when they opened a location at Riverview. I've been to the location on Power 3 times now and love it. I've ordered the nachos suprema (not on the menu but available) and have also had a Robert's taco combo plate. Both were fantastic. I feel like they're still trying to get the details of day to day business figured out but I'm sure that will come with time. There's been an overwhelming response to this new location and I don't know if they had counted on just big the demand would be. It's been packed every time I've gone, but I will continue to wait for great food.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
